ESAB Welding and Cutting has introduced OK Flux 10.62 (Advanced Slag Release) for Submerged Arc Welding (SAW). Compared to many other high basic fluxes on the market, the upgraded OK Flux 10.62 (Advanced Slag Release) offers better slag release for single and multiple wire SAW processes, as well as better recyclability due to its high grain strength.
"OK Flux 10.62 (Advanced Slag Release) is a high basicity, neutral, agglomerated flux especially suited for narrow gap welding because of its good slag detachability and smooth sidewall blending," says Martin Gehring, ESAB Global Product Line Manager – Mild and Low-alloyed SAW. "The narrow running slag allows higher currents in narrow gap ...

ESAB Welding and Cutting Products has introduced PURUS™ 42, a next-generation solid wire specifically formulated to reduce post-weld cleaning of spatter and silica islands. Classified as an AWS ER70S-6 EN/ISO G3Si1 wire and available in diameters from 0.8 to 1.6 mm.
"We enhanced the metallurgy of PURUS wire to reduce formation of silica islands so that slag self-releases or easily brushes off," says Mikael Mimer, Global Product Line Manager Solid Wires, ESAB. "PURUS wire can reduce post-weld cleaning time and unplanned downtime associated with spatter, reduce or eliminate downtime for removing silica islands in multi-pass welding and reduce or eliminate paint-related quality issues.
The capabilities that make stainless steel so attractive — the ability to tailor its mechanical properties and resistance to corrosion and oxidation — also increase the complexity of selecting an appropriate filler metal. For any given base material combination, any one of several types of electrodes may be appropriate depending on cost issues, service conditions, desired mechanical properties and a host of welding-related issues.
This article provides the necessary technical background to give the reader an appreciation for the complexity of the topic and then answers some of the most common questions filler metal suppliers receive. It establishes general guidelines for selecting appropriate ...
